In 1915, Erwin von Riedemann and his beloved wife Josefa moved from Germany to Lugano.
Josefa was a passionate golfer who had won numerous international golf tournaments. To shows his wife just how much he loved her, Erwin Riedemann founded one of the first golf courses in Switzerland, inaugurated in Magliaso on November 24, 1923.
Designed as a 9-hole course by the architect Percy Dell, it was subsequently expanded to become an 18 hole course in 1970 by the architect Donald Harradine. This was nothing short of a small miracle as the golf course now stretches over just 32 hectares where most modern course extend over an average of 50 hectares. The difficulty of the holes is varied making the course interesting for both beginners and professionl players.
The Golf Club Lugano has a new golf school, the Lugano Golf Academy, with four of the best Pros in Ticino.
Today the course unfolds along the Magliasina River on flat terrain between rows of birch, oak, fir and ash trees, rhododendrons, oleanders and azaleas. You will come across squirrels, ducks and a beautiful heron which often lingers by the pond between the tenth and eleventh holes.
We welcome you warmly and wish you a great game!
